Alumnus Marc Levoy (Ph.D. ’89) elected to National Academy of Engineering.

UNC Computer Science alumnus Marc Levoy (Ph.D. ‘89) was elected to the National Academy of Engineering. Membership to the Academy is considered one of the highest professional honors for an engineer.

Levoy was recognized for significant contributions to the field of computer graphics and digital photography. Levoy was a longtime member of the Department of Computer Science at Stanford University, as well as a distinguished engineer at Google. Now a vice president and fellow at Adobe, Levoy continues to pioneer the field of digital photography.

The National Academy of Engineering announced the election of 111 new members and 22 international members in February. The new member class will be formally inducted on October 2, 2022 at the Academy’s annual meeting. For a full list of elected members, please see the press release.
