Academic Outcomes
CS can be an intense major on its own, but over one half of UNC CS undergraduates pursue a double major. Many CS students also pursue one or more minors. The “Academic Outcomes” section of the workbook breaks down the distribution of double majors by degree type, and you can hover to see individual counts of each combination.
Approximately 80% of undergraduate students join the workforce, while almost 10% pursue higher education. Other students choose different paths, such as joining the military, volunteering, or traveling.
Industry Outcomes
Although the majority of computer science graduates go into software engineering, other occupations such as business-tech roles and consulting are also represented. Top employers at UNC include Fidelity, Capital One, Meta, and Microsoft.
UNC CS grads also go on to a variety of places around the country. The “Location Outcomes” section of the workbook shows the average salary in each state when hovering. Many students remain in North Carolina after graduation, but there are also high counts in other states like California, Washington, and New York.
General Salary Information
Salaries for CS majors vary depending on the company, location, job title, and more. There is not a “one-size-fits-all” number that CS majors should target or ask for when applying and interviewing for positions. However, some tools and resources might make the process less nebulous.
