Biography

Sayeed Ghani is a Teaching Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has a B.S. from MIT (1984) and M.S. and Ph.D. from Columbia University (1986 and 1990) in Electrical Engineering. Before joining UNC-Chapel Hill, he was Professor at the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi, where he served for 22 years, initially as Chairperson of the Center for Computer Studies (2001-2008) and later as the founding Associate Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science (2009-2020).

Sayeed Ghani also served as the Chairperson of the Academic Committee (2008-20), as a member of the IBA Board of Governors and as interim Acting Dean/Executive Director on two occasions. He has over 12 years of industry experience prior to joining IBA and was IT Head for ABN AMRO Bank and State Life Insurance Corporation, Pakistan and has also worked at Unilever in Pakistan and NYNEX Science & Technology in the US. He has also been affiliated with GTE Labs and the MIT Laboratory for Computer Science. Dr. Ghani has a number of publications in leading IEEE journals and conferences. His current research interests include applications of AI and Deep Learning in Health/IoT and Wireless Sensor Networks.
