The UNC Department of Computer Science and the Women in Computer Science Club are hosting the second annual Women in Tech Week, beginning March 5, 2018. This year’s talks will feature a security theme.
Throughout the week, students, faculty, and staff can contribute to the #ISitWithWomeninTech social media initiative in the Sitterson Hall lower lobby. Participants can share suggestions and stories via social media, take photos using a Snapchat filter and Facebook profile picture frame, add to the wall of support, and #SitWithWomeninTech as part of the #SitWithMe initiative by NCWIT.
On Monday, March 5, there will be a series of lightning talks on various security topics by women in the industry, followed by a Q&A discussion.
On Tuesday, March 6, Sandy Thompson from Cisco will speak about women in tech, STEM, and data protection/privacy in the modern world. Thompson leads Cisco’s Data Protection Program and has more than 25 years of IT experience, including 19 years in global leadership roles at Cisco.
On Wednesday, March 7, Lindsay Maule, CEO and Managing Partner of cryptocurrency hedge fund Luna Capital, will talk about the importance of women in tech and blockchain. Maule has been trading and investing in cryptocurrencies since 2013 and has even more experience in financial markets, business development, and statistics.
On Thursday, March 8, Red Hat Security Strategist Kirsten Newcomer will speak about DevSec Ops and her journey as a woman in tech. In addition to her work with Red Hat, Newcomer’s career has spanned successful roles at IBM Software Group, Rational Software, and BMC Software.
