The Department of Computer Science mourns the loss of its founder, Dr. Frederick P. Brooks, Jr., a pioneer in the field of computer science and a tremendous colleague and friend to so many. Dr. Brooks passed away on November 17, 2022 at the age of 91, surrounded by his family.

Raffel receives NSF CAREER Award

Assistant Professor Colin Raffel has received a Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Award from the National Science Foundation (NSF). Raffel’s five-year grant, worth more than $535,700, is titled “Collaborative, Communal, and Continual Model Training for Democratizing Machine Learning.” The research will seek to enable community-developed and continually-improved machine learning models.

Chakraborty elected to IEEE Fellows Class of 2022

William R. Kenan, Jr. Distinguished Professor Samarjit Chakraborty was elected a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) for 2022. Chakraborty was recognized for contributions to system-level timing analysis of cyber-physical systems.
