About the Workshop The Global Environment for Network Innovations – GENI – is a suite of research infrastructure rapidly taking shape across the United States. GENI provides a virtual laboratory for networking and distributed systems research and education. It is well suited for exploring networks at scale thereby promoting innovations in network science, security, services and applications.
The NSF Workshop on GENI in Education is intended to encourage the use of GENI in undergraduate and graduate networking and distributed systems classes. Preference will therefore be given to participants who have never used GENI in their classroom and intend to do so within the next year.
The workshop will include an overview of GENI; presentations by faculty who have used GENI in their graduate and undergraduate classes; descriptions of available teaching resources such as ready-to-use tutorials and exercises; and recommendations for handling class logistics such as account creation.
This workshop is being held in conjunction with the GENI Engineering Conference (GEC) that runs from Sunday, October 27, through Tuesday, October 29. Workshop attendees are very strongly encouraged to also attend at least the first day of the GEC. This first day includes hands-on tutorials for newcomers to GENI. Subsequent days include updates on the GENI project, advanced tutorials (suitable for newcomers who have attended the tutorials on Day 1), and sessions where attendees can get one-on-one help with their experiments, planning their GENI-based coursework, etc. Attendance at the entire GEC is encouraged.
