Printing to the HP Plotter via the SN245 Print Server

The machine sn245print.cs.unc.edu is a Windows print server and workstation located in SN245.  This print server will handle access to printing to the HP Plotter located in SN245 and will also serve as a workstation for Microsoft Office applications as well as Adobe Acrobat.   Users can choose to print documents locally by logging into this system with their CS account, or direct print jobs at this system from their own workstations.

You will need to do the following to print to the plotter from your workstation:

Windows 7

1. Click on the Start Menu and choose “Run..”

2. Type ‘\\sn245print.cs.unc.edu’ and hit the Enter key.

3. Find “HP Plotter in SN245” and right-click on it.  Select “Connect” and Windows will add the printer to your system.

4. The plotter should now be accessible from your system.  It will be in the printer list as HP DesignJet T730 on sn245print.

Windows 8/8.1/10

1. Right-click on the Start Menu or as far in the lower left as you can get your mouse and choose “Run..”

2. Type ‘\\sn245print.cs.unc.edu’ and hit the Enter key.

3. Find “HP Plotter in SN245” and right-click on it.  Select “Connect” and Windows will add the printer to your system.

4. The plotter should now be accessible from your system.  It will be in the printer list as HP DesignJet T730 on sn245print.

Macintosh OS

1.  Go to the upper left of your screen, click on the Apple logo and then ‘System Preferences..’

2. Click on “Printers & Scanners.”

3. Click on the ‘+’ sign in the lower left.

4. Select the “IP” icon from the toolbar. Enter ‘unixprint.cs.unc.edu’ for the Address, ‘djsn245’ for the Queue, ‘HP Plotter in SN245’ for the Name, and choose ‘Select Software…’ for Use.

5.  Select “HP DesignJet T730” from the list and hit ‘OK’ and then ‘Add’.

6. You may then be prompted for your CS credentials.  Enter these and select the “Remember this password in my keychain” box.  Click ‘Connect.’

7. You may be asked about the memory configuration of the printer.  Select the default of standard and hit ‘Ok.’

8. If warned that ‘unixprint.cs.unc.edu’ is already set up, click ‘OK’ to add a new printer.

9. This should be the end result.  You can set it as your default or choose another printer.
