How to Set Up LDAP Access in Mozilla Thunderbird

The ITS group has a nice information page on setting up various email clients and for performing searches on the campus directories at:

Then perform a test search on yourself by starting to send yourself a message. Enter your last name as the ‘To:’ person in the message.  If you pause after entering your name in the “To” field, you should see the rest of the field filled out with your email address.  If there are multiple matches, then a popup window will appear with all of the choices that the directory search returned.  Select the correct one, and the field should be filled out.

LDAP is the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol.  This protocol was developed at the University of Michigan as an alternative to a much more complicated directory protocol that was rarely used, X.400.
