“Image Description and Beyond”

2016-2017 Hettleman Lecture

Toy Lounge, Dey Hall

As a recipient of the Phillip and Ruth Hettleman Prize for Artistic and Scholarly Achievement by Young Faculty in 2016, associate professor Tamara Berg will deliver a Hettleman Lecture on May 9 at 1 p.m. in the Toy Lounge of Dey Hall. Berg’s research spans the intersection of computer vision and natural language processing, as she addresses the challenge of integrating disparate, but complementary sources of information associated with images and video. In addition to her work at UNC, Berg also co-founded Shopagon, a startup which uses artificial intelligence algorithms to enhance the retail clothing shopping experience.

Directions

Toy Lounge is located in Dey Hall, which sits on the west side of Polk Place, the lower quad, between Wilson Library and Gardner Hall. From the lobby of Brooks Building, head east on the large sidewalk, past Chapman Hall and Carroll Hall, and the back side of Dey Hall will be on your right.
